Public notices in newspapers are independent, archivable, accessible and verifiable. Newspapers publish notices, websites post notices and there is a big difference.
Newspapers authenticate notices. Newspapers serve as an authentic printed record of publication and provide sworn affidavits, along with physical proof – even years after a notice has been published.
Electronic media – broadcast or online – present serious challenges to due process authentication, and make public actions vulnerable in litigation. Posting is subject to error...or worse. It is vulnerable to manipulation, loss of content and technological change. It cannot easily provide a reliable, enduring record.
Newspapers are a single, convenient location for notices. Newspapers reach a wide range of people in different demographic circles.
