Now is the time to start getting your contest entries ready.
The 2018 New Mexico Press Association Better Newspaper Contest is right around the corner. There are a few changes with contest this year, including the addition of a new award. The Sunshine Award has been added to recognize our members who go the extra mile in keeping public records open.
In addition, a few categories – best review, best business story and best obituary – have been expanded so that each class of newspapers will compete against each other.
All of this will be in anticipation of the 110th NMPA Convention and Hall of Fame Luncheon on Oct. 25-28 at the Marriott Hotel in Uptown Albuquerque. Not only are we celebrating the best in New Mexico newspapers for 2018, but the Press Association is marking the 50th anniversary of its Hall of Fame.
We’ve got some great speakers already lined up for the Convention, and a few fun changes that is sure to educate and entertain.
But let’s be honest, all you care about right now is the contest.
Once again, the Press Association is using the ACES System for our contest. That means the same computer interface as last year.
You will be able to load entries starting on July 1. However, preparers are strongly encouraged to register at http://www.newspapercontest.com/Contests/NewMexicoPressAssociation.aspx.
Entries will be accepted until 5 p.m. on July 27 and judging by the Maryland, Delaware and D.C. Press Association will begin a week later.
As usual, the General Excellence, Supplements and Special Sections and Design categories will be mail in entries.
All the relevant information for the contest is in the attached Guidelines. If you have any questions regarding the contest, please feel free to call us at 505-275-1377. If, however, the answer to your question is in the guidelines booklet, we will mock you mercilessly.
Good luck!
