New Mexican flag [Converted]

The Santa Fe New Mexican is looking for a lead political reporter. You’ll cover a top beat in the state’s capital for a readership that joneses for smart, topical and in-depth coverage. You’ll also cover the state’s Public Regulation Commission, which produces news regularly and influences almost every aspect of life in the state. In addition, you’ll keep tabs on our congressional delegation and help cover what certainly will be an interesting race for U.S. House and U.S. Senate seats in 2020.

The candidate we’re looking for has at least five years’ experience of covering state government, understands deadlines and can propose stories editors haven’t considered. He or she understands the marriage of crisp writing and dogged reporting, and doesn’t give an inch to the competition.

Salary and benefits are competitive. You’ll work in one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in the country, and cover a state where politics is the family business.
