New Mexico Press Association

The New Mexico Press Association seeks a leader to work with the association and its newspaper members across the state. We are searching for a dynamic individual to continue to grow and strengthen our association on behalf of its members. The Executive Director for the New Mexico Press Association and New Mexico Press Service is a high-profile executive position, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and reporting to the elected President and Board of Directors of the Association. The Executive Director is the primary spokesman and the professional “face” of the newspaper industry in New Mexico.

The next executive director will guide the association in its day-to-day management and long-term strategic planning. The position requires a proven ability in print advertising sales, management skills, excellent communication skills, leadership attributes, business planning with measurable results, and strong financial acumen. A passion for, and understanding of, the newspaper industry is paramount to success in this position.

Duties include: Availability to member newspapers and membership development; print and digital advertising sales; lobbying the Legislature and the ability to work with government agencies and elected officials; website and social media management; large and small event planning and execution; media planning and placement; public speaking; P&L reports and general financial management; ability to work closely with NMPA board of directors; administrative tasks, including day-to-day operations, management of annual newspaper contest, and email blasts.

A successful candidate will also be deadline-driven with excellent communication skills. Candidates with a background in journalism, advertising and/or association management head to the front of the line. A strong sales background is preferred.

The position offers a salary dependent on experience and benefits, plus a commission and bonus structure.

The New Mexico Press Association represents daily and weekly newspapers across the state. Our mission is to improve the quality of member newspapers, encourage high journalistic standards and protect the rights of newspapers.
